Outsourcing Warehousing Logistics needs in Illinois

Posted on Fri, Jan 07, 2011 @ 09:46 AM

Chicago Public WarehouseNeill Cartage and Warehouse is Chicago's premier full service logistics, warehousing, and distribution company.  Servicing the Midwest since 1946.

Any business will tell you that juggling warehousing logistics and business related work is not easy, especially when it's a small business. Running and managing a warehouse means having lots of systems and processes in place, along with qualified staff.

The good news is that you can outsource warehouse logistics to a third party provider like Neill Cartage and Warehouse. Basically a third party is a company that has warehouses where different businesses can store their goods under a single roof. One of the main benefits of outsourcing warehousing logistics is the confidence of knowing that your goods will be stored in a proper manner.

Third party warehouses are run by logistic companies.  These warehouses are large enough that they are sub-divided into specific storage space for each client. In addition, if your storage needs are special, these logistics companies have the capability to fulfill these needs. For instance, if your product is a hazardous material they have designated areas for hazmat related products.

Logistic warehouses have several docking areas which make it easy for simultaneous loading and unloading. In addition, they use modern handling equipment and racking methods that ensure all goods are safely stored.

However, to reap business profits from outsourcing warehousing logistics, you have to hire the right logistics company. Just because a company offers you the lowest quote, it does not mean that they are the right fit for your business needs. Make sure you hire a logistics company that has the necessary experience in warehousing logistics.

Outsourced warehousing and third party logistics is ideal for growing businesses. Businesses, such as small and medium enterprises, need a streamlined system to take advantage of e-commerce activity and distribution.

In today's digital world, e-commerce is easily accessible and within the reach of most companies. A well-designed site and marketing campaign may drive sales but, the real test of any company is the delivery of products to consumers in a timely and efficient manner. Small businesses need to focus on how they can get the sold goods to the paying customer without causing a bottleneck in the process; outsourced warehousing is the ideal option. Start up businesses might lack the knowledge of logistics and transport which will cause the order flow to fall behind and unhappy customers.

Fulfilment warehouses since as Neill Cartage and Warehouse can help these small businesses with order fulfilment ensuring that their order processes are seamless. Outsourcing the logistics, storage, transport, and stock control allows the businesses to focus on developing the marketing of their products, which will inevitably lead to more sales and more shipping.

For small and medium enterprises, outsourced warehousing is really the way to go. The businesses will have limited manpower and shipping knowledge, which can slow the order processes and lead to customer service nightmares. Fulfilment warehouses can sort out the process from initial order to pick and pack to delivery of goods.

Looking to outsourced warehousing for shipping needs is an effective business strategy for growing businesses. Public Warehouse can provide their expertise in shipping to other countries saving the small businesses time in paperwork that accompanies customs and export of goods. This will also save the new business money in salaries for employees that might not be needed all of the time.

If you are looking to warehouse in the Midwest region of the United States, you can count on Neill to get you moving in the right direction!

Public Warehouse Distribution - Chicago

Posted on Mon, Oct 18, 2010 @ 14:22 PM

Chicago Public WarehouseNeill Cartage and Warehouse is Chicago's premier full service logistics, warehousing, and distribution company.  Servicing the Midwest since 1946.

It is important to select a public warehouse that is geographically located where transport accessibility is available. The transportation methods, such as road, rail, air, or ship should be located in near proximity to the warehouse in order to make it easy to distribute the needed products to their destinations. For a warehouse that is responsible for international exports, good locations would include a nearby airport or port.

The staff employed by at public warehouse is trained to prepare the goods for distribution to the necessary destination. This includes the inventory, packing, loading, and transporting of these materials. The steps vary according to the final location of the transport. For example, products that are going to a foreign place must be carefully packed with not only shipping invoices, but also customs declarations and necessary documentation. However, the shipping process is a lot less complex when dealing with national distribution, because the international regulations do not exist. Whatever the destination location, distribution is sometimes a 2 or 3 step process, which sometimes involves road and air or ship methods, and frequently all 3 means of transportation.

The processes of accurate inventory data are essential so that the goods being distributed and/ or transported will be executed precisely. If a public warehouse is not exact when recording inventory, then the distribution of the material may not be correct and the end results, pertaining to the customer, will be negative and/ or unsuccessful. All of the distribution costs are included in the contractual fees that the warehouse initially charges the company. In this way, the public warehouse does, indeed, have a say in the success of a company’s chain supply.

Truck drivers that distribute goods on a national/local level are employees of the warehouse and assume the responsibility for the delivering of the products in “A -1” condition. This is another instance where the insurance would kick in if the goods were damaged upon delivery.

Finally, it is good to remember that distribution is the last step that a public warehouse must complete in regard to its commitments, thus affecting the supply chain process of the business that has contracted its services. The responsibility that a public warehouse incurs is one of great magnitude, which illustrates the importance that a warehouse plays with regard to a company’s profits and/ or revenues.

Distribution Warehouse / Center in Chicago

Posted on Fri, May 28, 2010 @ 08:26 AM

Neill Cartage and Warehouse is Chicago's distribution warehouse / center for several clients around the world.

What is a distribution warehouse? How it assist manfactures and retailers in local markets?

A distribution center for a set of products is a warehouse or other specialize building, which is stocked with products / goods to be re-distributed to consumer, retailers, and wholesalers.  A distribution center is a key part, the ordering process, of the entire order fulfillment.  A distribution center can also be called a warehouse, a DC, a fulfillment center, a cross-dock facility, a bulk break center, and a package handling center. The name by which the distribution center is known is commonly based on the purpose of the operation. Neill Cartage and Warehouse services several different manufactures, retailer, and consumer, and is considered all of the above to different clients.

Distribution centers are the foundation of supply chain as they allow a single location to stock a vast number of products.  Since a large retailer / manufacture might sell thousands of products from thousands of vendors, it would be inefficient to ship each product directly from each vendor to each store.  Many large retailers own and run their own distribution center, while smaller retailers may outsource this function to dedicated local logistics firm that coordinates the distribution of products for a number of companies.

Neill Cartage and Warehouse works with both large and small manufactures / retailers to handle their distribution network in Chicago and the Midwest.  We are the eyes and hears for these manufactures as they hundreds of thousands of dollar of merchandise in our warehouses.

Bonded Warehouse in Chicago

Posted on Mon, May 24, 2010 @ 14:28 PM

Chicago Public WarehouseNeill Cartage and Warehouse is Chicago's premier full service logistics, warehousing, and distribution company.  Servicing the Midwest since 1946.

A Bonded warehouse is a building in which dutiable goods may be stored, manipulated, or undergo manufacturing operations without payment of duty. It may be managed by the state or by private enterprise. In the latter case a customs bond must be posted with the government. This system exists in all developed countries of the world.

Upon entry of goods into the warehouse, the importer and warehouse proprietor incur liability under a bond. This liability is generally cancelled when the goods are:

  • Exported; or deemed exported;
  • Destroyed under Customs supervision; or
  • Withdrawn for consumption domestically after payment of duty.

While the goods are in the bonded warehouse, they may, under supervision by the customs authority, be manipulated by cleaning, sorting, repacking, or otherwise changing their condition by processes that do not amount to manufacturing. After manipulation, and within the warehousing period, the goods may be exported without the payment of duty, or they may be withdrawn for consumption upon payment of duty at the rate applicable to the goods in their manipulated condition at the time of withdrawal. In the United States, goods may remain in the bonded warehouse up to five years from the date of importation. Bonded warehouses provide specialized storage services such as deep freeze or bulk liquid storage, commodity processing, and coordination with transportation, and are an integral part of the global supply chain.
